Bergen County baseball tournament

Nick Pronti walked off with a win and some team history all in one shot.

The Wood-Ridge senior smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up a 9-8 victory over Northern Highlands on Wednesday in the first round of the Bergen County tournament.

That gave the Blue Devils their first ever home win in tournament history.

Pronti went 2-for-4 at the plate and tripled, while junior shortstop Mike Giancaspro drove in three runs and stole two bases for the Blue Devils.

Ridgewood 5, Rutherford 0

RIDGEWOOD– Sophomore Sam Favieri gave a dominant pitching performance for the Maroons by striking out 11 over 5 2/3 innings.

The righty improved to 4-0, as ninth-ranked Ridgewood moved on to play St. Mary.

Waldwick 6, Mahwah 5

WALDWICK – Matt Rypkema delivered a bases-loaded, no-out single that scored Garrett Mironenko to win the game. Rypkema had two RBI for the Warriors, who scored a run apiece in the last six innings of the game.

NV/Old Tappan 2, Midland Park 1

OLD TAPPAN – The tenth-seeded Golden Knights only needed a pair of runs in the first inning to earn their 13th win of the year.

Senior righty Jack Bilali picked up the victory by giving up just one unearned run over 6 2/3 innings.

Tenafly 2, Lyndhurst 1

LYNDHURST – Patrick DeSalvo and Kento Fukuda both drove in a run for Tenafly as the No. 21 seed came back to knock off the tournament’s 12th ranked team.

The Tigers gave up just three hits on the day, and did not allow a run after the first inning.

Ramsey 8, Glen Rock 4

RAMSEY – Brian Long had two RBI and five others drove in a run for the Rams (13-6).

Ramsey’s offense broke out early with three runs in the opening inning. The thirteenth-seeded Rams built their lead with another four in the fifth inning.
