Hawthorne Christian’s Chris Silos enters the week with 23 hits in 41 at-bats, good for a .561 average. The junior has played catcher, center fielder, shortstop, first base and pitcher this season for coach Aaron Van Dyk, who picked up his 50th career win Thursday against Veritas Christian. Silos homered and drove in three for the Defenders (6-10) in the game.

Leonia senior IF Andy Marquardt went 1-for-3 in Wednesday’s 6-5 victory versus New Milford, notching his 100th career hit for the Lions (9-7). John Weber got the game-winning RBI by drawing a four-pitch walk in the bottom of the seventh.

The Lyndhurst Rec Center turf hosted a pair of milestones last week. Senior SS Nick Carnevale of Lyndhurst collected his 100th career hit in a 7-0 NJIC Liberty Division win over Ridgefield on May 7. Less than 24 hours later, Bergen Catholic faced St. Peter’s Prep on the same field, and senior C David LaManna got his 100th hit on a first-inning infield single as part of a 2-for-4 day.

Senior 2B/P John Biggiani leads Ridgefield (11-9) in batting average (.400), hits (26), RBI (20) and runs scored (22). The Royals’ top pitcher to date has been Louie Correa (2-2), who has struck out 40 in 35⅔ innings while allowing just 20 hits and 12 walks for a WHIP of 0.98. The right-hander’s ERA is 1.37.

In their two NJIC Meadowlands clashes this season, St. Mary and Wallington combined to score 72 runs. The Gaels followed up their 25-11 home win on April 13 with a 20-16 victory last Monday. In the two-game series, junior OF Ben Diaz logged three doubles, two triples and seven RBI for St. Mary, while Stefan Klics led Wallington with two doubles and eight RBI.

Emerson junior SS Sammi DeStefano has been coming up big for the Cavos out of the cleanup spot. In the past seven games entering Sunday, she was 13-for-20 with four walks, eight runs and seven RBI while raising her batting average to .525. Junior P Jenna Cooper also recorded her 250th career strikeout in a win over Cresskill.

 

Waldwick junior SS Devin Burke is coming off a huge week as she went 8-for-14 (.571) with a triple, four runs, four RBI and a .625 on-base percentage. The Warriors’ leadoff hitter scored the game-winning run against Bergenfield and got the game-tying RBI in a win over Bogota.
