Butler High School will officially be a member of the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference starting in the 2018-19 school year, NJIC Executive Director Stan Fryczynski announced in a press release on Monday.

The NJIC voted 34-0 in favor of approving Butler for the membership on Wednesday, with two members absent from the vote.

“They are going to be a fantastic competitive fit for our conference and we are happy to have them on board,” Fryczynski said in a statement.

Butler has long been a member of the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference, which began playing football in the North Jersey Super Football Conference this past fall. It received permission from the NJAC to apply for entery into the NJIC this past February and was reviewed by the league’s membership in March before Monday’s vote.

The NJIC realignment committee will now review the existing four-division alignment and recommend to the body at a September meeting what division Butler should be in.
