Rogers narrowly misses county record, becomes only fifth girl in Bergen County history to clear 5-foot-8

ORADELL – Since we will probably be hearing a lot about Rutherford freshman Jenna Rogers the next few years, let’s get our facts straight.

She says her hair is “strawberry blond,” not red.

She likes mac and cheese and studying science.

She and her older sister Jessica are fiercely competitive.

And Saturday at the Jack Yockers Bergen County Relays at River Dell, Rogers nearly broke a 19-year old Bergen County record (5-foot-10) in the high jump. She became just the fifth girl in Bergen County history to clear 5-8 and was named the Outstanding Field Athlete at the meet.

Rogers, who turned 15 on Tuesday, was the talk of the day. Her three attempts at 5-10 drew a large crowd, which gasped as the bar rolled off, especially on her second attempt, where she was thisclose to making history.
