SPECIAL TO THE RECORD
OLD TAPPAN – Before playing in a tournament final, most tennis players would prefer to play a two-set semi as opposed to a three-set semi.
Not Emily Sivarak.
On Sunday, the Dwight-Englewood freshman entered the Bergen County tournament small-schools first-singles finals after a grueling, three-set win over Ramsey’s defending champion Nina McAllan. Sivarak’s finals opponent, Leonia’s Liya Davidov, had topped her prior opponent in two quick sets.
“You could say I was more tired,” Sivarak said. “But you could also say I got to practice more in the [semifinals] so I was more ready.
“I guess it depends on what kind of stamina you’ve got.”
Sivarak obviously had tremendous stamina as she knocked off Leonia’s Liya Davidov in the finals, 6-2 and 6-1.
