By the numbers

Saddle River Day senior Michelle Sidor became Bergen County’s all-time leading scorer on Dec. 22 and is up to 2,703 career points through Wednesday’s win over East Orange Campus. While she pursues 3,000, teammate Jenna Jordan needs 60 to become the fourth member of the Rebel girls’ 1,000-point club.

Angela Downey of Lyndhurst made a program-record nine three-pointers on Dec. 20, totaling 36 points in a 67-32 win at New Milford.

In the Ridgefield Holiday Tournament, both semifinal winners gave their coaches milestone victories – Hasbrouck Heights’ Mike Kilgallen got No. 200 for his career, and the Royals’ Jorge Reynoso earned No. 100. The hosts prevailed in the final, 47-16.

Test-taking time

  • In January, we start to find out which teams are for real heading into county tournaments. Rutherford (6-0) is up to No. 16 after sweeping three games in the Frank Baldachino tournament, including a host Dumont team that was ranked at the time. Butler (5-0) is knocking on the door of the Top 25 after winning its own holiday tournament and gets its first big NJIC Liberty test Monday against Secaucus.
  • Secaucus defeated Northern Highlands and host Pascack Valley en route to the Joe Poli final, where it held a 50-45 lead on Immaculate Heart with 2:40 to play. The Blue Eagles ended on an 11-2 run to win an event in which they also beat Indian Hills and NV/Old Tappan. How deep was this tournament? River Dell held off Northern Highlands in the fifth-place game.
