Greg Mattura – Record Sports Department / RIVER VALE – Midland Park had to play an extra hole to win its first golf division title, and that just made it even more gratifying.

The Panthers captured the NJIC Championship Division 2 title by defeating Cresskill in a one-hole playoff on Monday at chilly, windy Valley Brook Golf Course.

“When we all came in and I heard that there was going to be a playoff, I was extremely excited,” said Midland Park sophomore Mikey Folignani, “but also extremely nervous, because it’s a playoff for a league title.”

Midland Park and Cresskill forced a playoff after each carded a shoot-four, count-four score of 332. Cresskill’s Laurent Span won the Division 2 individual title with 1-under-par 69.

Glen Rock easily won the Division 1 title with 350.

Leonia’s Piper Kim won the individual crown with 79 while she played from one set of tees forward of the boys.
