Since 2004, the NJSIAA and ShopRite have teamed up to award select schools as Shoprite Cup winners, based on most points earned during state championship competition during the fall, winter and spring seasons along with good sportsmanship.

The concept is simple: a first-place finish in a group championship earns a school 10 points; a runner-up finish equals 8; and third- and fourth-place qualifiers can earn anywhere between 4-6 points, depending on the sport. Additional points are given for good sportsmanship.

For sports that feature a Tournament of Champions, winners receive an additional 10 points while the runner-up earns another five. Points for a single-gender schools get doubled.

In 2017-18, six New Jersey schools were crowned as champions — one per group (four public, two non-public) — following the results from 31 NJSIAA-sanctioned sports.

The winners of the 14th annual ShopRite Cup were as follows:

Group 4 Champion: Ridge (62)

Group 3 Champion: Moorestown (72)

Group 2 Champion: Haddonfield (122)

Group 1 Champion: Highland Park (43)

Non-Public A Champion: Christian Brothers Academy (201)

Non-Public B Champion: Lodi Immaculate (52)

The 2018 ShopRite Cup was presented during award ceremonies at each of the winning schools. Each school received a banner for display in its gymnasium along with ShopRite Cup trophies. Congratulatory banners are also displayed in the schools’ local ShopRite stores to celebrate the winners.
