Austin Hawxhurst (left) from Secaucus HS and Carly Manning (right) from Emerson High School, represented the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference in the first ever NJSIAA Student Advisory Workshop. The event was held on Thursday, April 12 at the NJSIAA headquarters in Robbinsville, N.J.

The NJSIAA conducted the first ever student advisory workshop today and it proved to be a valuable tool. One that the State leaders may want to tap in the future. The workshop had a diversified agenda that covered feedback and participation in topics such as sportsmanship, transgender policy, summer recess period (blackout period and practices), the NJSIAA website, awarding of co-championships, and the length of seasons. Each of the  directors of the NJSIAA contributed to the workshop and then the athletes were later invited into the League and Conference meeting in the adjacent room. The athletes were encouraged to  to provide further feedback and also asked to field additional questions from the various members of New Jersey conference leadership in attendance.

“The workshop was a tremendous step forward and I can only hope that NJSIAA conducts more of these at a regional as well as the state level,”said NJIC Executive Director Stan Fryczynski.”In speaking to our two students, we found out that they thoroughly enjoyed being part of this process and that they felt quite a bit of satisfaction knowing that their input was considered important and that they were listened to by members the NJSIAA and the various conference representatives.”

“I would like to thank Emerson Athletic Direcotor and Executive Board member Gus Paleoudis, and students Carly Manning and Austin Hawxhurst for joining me at this very successful event. We also want to thank NJSIAA Executive Director Larry White and his staff for conducting this workshop,” concluded Fryczynski.
