Bogota 67, Paterson Charter 54

BOGOTA – Fourth-seeded Bogota used the cushion from a 19-9 first quarter on Thursday to down No. 5 Paterson Charter, 67-54, giving the Bucs (20-7) a spot in the sectional semifinals and their first 20-win season since 2004.

Bogota relied on a quartet of scorers. Tim Uzor led the team with 18 points and three triples, and Deiker Padrino dropped 17 points while making seven free throws. Chris Castello had 13 points, and Argenis Soriano scored 12.

Jahki Clarke and Dazmir Stanton paced Paterson Charter (19-7) with 14 points, and Ramir Davis scored 12 points. Bogota hit nine threes to Paterson Charter’s five.

 

Cresskill 57, Cedar Grove 36

CRESSKILL – The second-seeded Cougars controlled the game, as junior center Wellington Ventura’s 16 points guided them to a win over No. 7 Cedar Grove.

Ventura also finished with 10 rebounds on the night. Junior point guard Harrison Lucibello scored 13 points to go with five assists and two steals, while Jack Maltby added 12 points.

The win was Cresskill’s sixth in a row, putting it at 20-7 on the season.

 

Becton 48, Hasbrouck Heights 45

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS – Behind a 10-4 run in the second quarter, No. 6 Becton was able to move past No. 3 Hasbrouck Heights for a semifinal berth.

Justin Roseboro led the way with 17 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats (16-11), who split two meetings with the Aviators this season. Tyler Colon was hot from behind the arc, knocking down four threes for 12 points.

Hasbrouck Heights (18-9) struggled from the floor, hitting as many field goals, 14, as free throws. Leading scorer Niko Regus was limited to just five, points, all from the foul line, and Nick Monahan led the Aviators with 13 points, including all three of the team’s treys.

 

Verona 79, Wood-Ridge 31

VERONA – Wood-Ridge, No. 9, scored a season-high 93 points in its first round win over West Caldwell Tech, but the Blue Devils could not find much offense on Tuesday.

Andrew Marino scored 15 points, but Wood-Ridge (14-13) got down early and stayed that way for the remainder of the night. Jack Barteck added nine points.

 

North 2, Group 1

Shabazz 84, North Arlington 41

NEWARK – After easily dispatching fifth-seeded Weehawken in the first round, No. 12 Shabazz continued to cruise with a blowout win over No. 13 North Arlington.

The Vikings were coming off an upset of their own over No. 4 People’s Prep, but they could not find the same magic Thursday. The game was in the balance after the first quarter ended with Shabazz up 14-9, but North Arlington (11-17) was then outscored and trailed 36-14 at the half.
