Class: Senior. Age: 18.
Accomplishment: At the North 1, Group 1 sectional, Saddle Brook’s Giovanni Gutierrez won the discus event with a throw of 187-8, currently No. 2 in the state this season and in the top five in Bergen County history. He also won the shot put for the third straight year at 60-8, winning it by almost 10 feet.
“His performance at the sectional was unbelievable. The disc throw was something to marvel at. It was just incredible. For his size, he is one of the most gifted individuals I have ever coached. The kid plays varsity soccer; he is nimble on his feet for 335 pounds. He is one of the kindest persons I have ever had the pleasure to coach.”
