Cynthia Ferreira scored 17 points as 11th-seeded Harrison defeated sixth-seeded Newark Central, 41-39, in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 2 tournament in Newark.
Kierrah Lucas added 15 points and helped Harrison build a 11-4 first quarter lead and extended the lead throughout the game.
Harrison made a total of 21 free-throws en route to victory. Harrison will face third-seed Ridgefield in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Newark Central was led by Danaija Bunch’s 12 points.
