Rutherford made the biggest leap in The Record girls volleyball Top 20 this week – from 14th up to seventh – in part because it has one of the best leapers in North Jersey.

National high jump champion Jenna Rogers registered 91 kills (13 per match) and 43 digs (6.1 average) during the Bulldogs’ first seven matches, helping them to their first 7-0 start in 10 years.

In Saturday’s 23-25, 25-13, 26-24 win over Tenafly, the sophomore outside hitter set a team record for kills in a match with 32. She topped the mark set by her older sister, Jessica, a 2016 Rutherford graduate.

“She has the whole package,” Bulldogs coach Helen Antzoulides said of Jenna. “Her spirit, attitude and incredibly humbled personality is so very refreshing to see in a young lady.”

Rogers is not the only impact player for Rutherford, either. Fellow outside hitter Catherine Laza had a career-high 10 kills against Tenafly to bring her season total to 40.

Senior setter Anna DeCesare is averaging 18.7 assists per match, and sophomore DS Emilia McCarthy leads the team 58 digs.
