The St. Mary, Becton and Rutherford football teams bolstered their chances of making the state playoffs, nearly clinching a shot at a state title.
St. Mary (7-0) had already qualified in the Non-Public Group 1, but clinched at least a share of the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference (NJIC) Patriot division title with the 40-14 win at Bogota on Saturday.
Becton (4-3) added points to its state playoff bid with a 48-0 win at Wood-Ridge on Friday night.
And Queen of Peace (2-5) was officially eliminated from the state playoffs after falling 45-22 to Saddle Brook on Friday night.
