Ethan Ramos of Hawthorne High School won the 170lb weight class at the 2013 State Wrestling Championships in Atlantic City.  He became the first Hawthorne wrestler to win a state championship and go undefeated in the same year.

Ramos was 40-0 this season and has a sparkling a career record of 142 wins against only 13 losses. In addition to earning All-State honors at this year’s NJ State tournament, Ethan’s 2012 Junior-National Championship last April earned him All-American honors as a member of the National High School Coach’s Association All-American Team.  During last year’s 2011-12 wrestling season, Ramos was the eighth Hawthorne HS wrestler to earn All-State and the second to achieve this honor twice. Ethan was the third All-American wrestler from the Bear’s program, joining Jerry Barks who finished 7th at Nationals in 1962, and Rusty Read who was selected to the ASICS All-American team in 1994.  Ethan has accumulated an unbelievable high school wrestling resume with 4 consecutive District 6 championships, 3 consecutive PCCA championships, and back-to-back Region 2 Championships. He has been named 1st team All League and All County in all 4 seasons.

His twin brother, Evan Ramos, took 5th in the State Championships in the  195lbb weight class.  He was 39-3 this year and completes his high school competition with an equally impressive 130-21 career record. Evan has won 3 consecutive District 6 titles, 3 PCCA Titles, and two silver medal finishes in Region 2. He was named 1st Team All League and All County the last 3 years.

This the first time since 1961 that Hawthorne can boast two wrestlers with All-State honors in the same season, To make it just a bit more special it is also the first time this feat was accomplished by brothers. They are both currently planning to wrestle at the Nationals again this year.

Tyler Loughlin, from Becton/Wallington, earned 8th place at  Atlantic City in the 152lb weight class. The junior was 38-6 this season and his career record presently stands at 103-16. Loughlin was the Bergen County 145lb Champion, three time District 15 Champion at 152 lbs, and the Region 4 Champion.
