Everything was just perfect for St. Mary on Tuesday at Tamblyn Field in Rutherford.

Senior right-hander Sal Careri threw a six-inning perfect game, striking out eight for his fifth win of the season as the Gaels, ranked No. 5 in The Record baseball Top 25, finished the regular season with a 10-0 win over Becton. The Gaels finished 16-0 in the NJIC Meadowlands Division, their first perfect league season.

Careri, who is expected to start for St. Mary in next week’s Non-Public North B tournament opener, was also part of a combined no-hitter earlier this year.

“When I say he was perfect, I mean perfect,” said St. Mary coach Dennis Hulse. “He didn’t miss a spot all day.”
