Bogota is dealing with the loss of its top returning player due to injury for the second consecutive season. Yet the Bucs are tied for first place in the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Patriot Division and can remain there with a home victory tonight over upstart and tri-leader Emerson (6-2, 4-0).

Bogota (5-2 overall, 4-0 Patriot) is without all-division senior guard Anthony Ovalle, sidelined since the preseason with knee injuries. It’s one year after the Bucs lost all-division senior guard Danny Connors to a season-ending shoulder injury.

“From my point of view, I pout a little bit and I move along,” said coach Jay Mahoney, who has won 595 games in his 38 seasons at the Group 1 school. “And that’s what I try to impart on the kids, and so far, so good.”
