The Record

The revamping of the Queen of Peace athletic department continued with the return of Chris Boyce as its boys basketball coach.

Boyce, the school’s assistant director of admissions, began as a varsity basketball assistant in 2002. He was the head coach from 2007-2011, leading the Golden Griffins to two league championships in which they were undefeated in league play, a first in Queen of Peace history.

“I’m happy to be back,” Boyce said. “This will be a new challenge.”

The Golden Griffins were 14-14 last season, winning a state tournament game. Forward Jeremy Joseph, a career 1,000-point scorer who averaged 18 points, eight rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.5 assists, is the key returnee on what Boyce says will be a “very, very young” squad.

The addition of Boyce means Queen of Peace will have new head coaches in three major sports. Jiovanny Fontan is the new girls basketball coach, and Jim Kelly takes over the football program.
