ENGLEWOOD – Nolan Van Rye intentionally missed his final free throw and that made Elmwood Park a winner and clinched a bid to the Bergen Jamboree. The Crusaders secured a 49-47 victory over DePaul on Saturday at the Public vs. Private Showcase at Dwight Morrow after Van Rye, by coach’s orders, clanged his second free throw off the rim with 0.69 seconds remaining so the clock would expire.

Had the senior guard made that free throw, DePaul could have been able to throw a long inbounds pass and possibly tie the score with a three-pointer. Instead, the buzzer sounded as a Spartan was rebounding Van Rye’s miss and before flinging a 70-foot hoist.
