GLEN ROCK — The game was not a masterpiece by any means. But behind a strong defensive effort and a 21-2 run spanning halftime, Glen Rock High School cruised to an historic win over Pequannock in the opening round of the North 1, Group 2 state tournament.

GRHS, the No. 8 seed, overpowered the No. 9 Golden Panthers, 50-31, marking the first time in 15 years that the program picked up state-sectional victories in consecutive seasons.

“It’s not often that a Glen Rock basketball team goes to states two years in a row,” head coach Jason Mittelman said. “And then to get two home games and to advance, that’s a huge accomplishment.”

The Panthers had not made the postseason two years in a row since earning berths in 1999 and 2000.
