The defining moment of Lyndhurst’s season was a loss, which wasn’t exactly a loss.

The Golden Bears earned the Groups 1-2 title at the Bergen County boys bowling tournament with an impressive six-game 6,102.

The only team to score higher that day was Groups 3-4 school Indian Hills, which broke the scoring record of 6,220 that Lyndhurst set in 2014 by one pin.

No one beat the Golden Bears for the rest of the season.

Coach Brianna Balkin’s squad swept its final three NJIC Meadowlands matches to finish 16-0. It won a fourth straight North 1A, Group 1 title with a section-record 3,490.

The Record Boys Bowling Team of the Year then clinched that distinction by shooting the No. 1 score at the state team finals (3,202), cruising to the Group 1 crown before becoming the first North Jersey school to win the Baker-style Tournament of Champions.
