TOURNEY SEASON: The May major tournament season tees off with Monday’s NJIC Championship, and Glen Rock is favored to repeat as Division 1 titlist at Valley Brook GC in River Vale. Glen Rock won last year’s crown with a four-player total of 338, 38 strokes better than runner-up Leonia. Panthers senior Andrew Nappi defends his individual title after winning last year by three strokes with an 8-over-par 78. Division 2 should be tighter, with Saddle River Day favored, followed by Waldwick and Emerson-Park Ridge. Among the individual contenders are Saddle River Day freshman PJ O’Rourke and junior Ross Rabin, the 2013 winner, and Waldwick junior Riley Toolen.

COUGARS CLIMBING: Cresskill carded its best score over the past two seasons with Thursday’s 195 in a tri-match at Rockleigh. Sophomore Laurent Span, a transfer from Don Bosco who sat out the first half of the season, led the Cougars with 45.

VIKING VICTORY: North Arlington (10-4) clinched its second consecutive state tournament bid with Monday’s win over Hawthorne. Senior Darian Nogueras and sophomore Tyler Sheffler have led the Vikings, and each shot 45 in the win.
