Waldwick

The Record – Boys soccer

No. 12 Waldwick

Last year’s record: 16-2-2

Final ranking: No. 11

Marquee game: vs. Hawthorne Christian, Sept. 5

Best assets: The Warriors return experienced players at key spots in the midfield and defense. Coach Jon Noschese expects returning keeper Dan Walsh to have a breakout year behind defender Nick Van Ness, while Andrew Hymson and Chris Cameron lock down the midfield.

The Warriors also had a good season on the JV level and will be looking to get a boost as several of those players move up to the varsity.

Biggest concern: Waldwick will be looking for new ways to put the ball in the net in the wake of the graduation of 40-goal scorer Dennis Reyes. “We’re going to have to score goals in a different way this season — by committee,” Noschese said. The coach believes that may be a good thing in the long run, as it will force teams to spread out their defense rather than concentrating on a single player.
