Wallington HS

The Record – Boys soccer

No. 14 Wallington

Last year’s record: 17-3-1

Final ranking: No. 13

Marquee game: at North Arlington, Sept. 22

Best assets: New coach Alessandro Barchi has been involved with the program for the past five years as an assistant, so aside from a few new wrinkles, there shouldn’t be a big transition period. Barchi has a team that has several creative offensive weapons led by forwards Damian Agaj and Nick Banko. The midfield will be experienced and solid. This team also still has the stinging loss to Park Ridge in last year’s North 1 final as motivation.

Biggest concern: It has to be defense. The Panthers graduated three players from their back row, so Barchi is mixing and matching some players who had been in other positions in the recent years. He is also expecting some players to step up from the JV and see significant time, but Wallington remains one of the top Group 1 programs around.
