HACKENSACK — Steady and patient, Mike O’Malley employed a strong defensive posture to carry the day. The Hasbrouck Heights sophomore struck for three points on escapes, the last coming with 20 seconds remaining in the second overtime period as he held off Alex Sebahie of Paramus, 3-2, in the 152-pound championship at the BCCA George Jockish Holiday Wrestling tournament.

“We’re pretty similar in the way we approach matches. We both are good on the counterattack and don’t like to give away any points,” said O’Malley. “He’s very physical, and so am I. And we both are good at working through some difficult situations. We both had the necessary conditioning to go the full eight minutes. In the end I just had enough to earn a hard-fought victory.”
