By Keith Idec – The RECORD

Last year’s record: 10-2

Final ranking: No. 8

Marquee game: vs. Elmwood Park, Sept. 13

Best assets: Despite graduating three running backs and a quarterback that combined to rush for 2,575 yards and 40 TDs, the Cardinals’ running game again figures to be their strong suit as they pursue a fourth straight state championship. Junior RB Ronnie Campos rushed for 304 yards and five TDs on only 38 carries last season. A promising trio of sophomore backs – Chris Grecco, Cole Harriet and Will Verrico – will share the load with Campos.

Biggest concerns: Coach Scott Mahoney is confident senior QB Ryan Shafer can compensate for the graduation of Adam Rayford (1,785 passing yards; 23 TD passes; seven rushing TDs), but the Cardinals also lost WRs Corey Flynn (789 receiving yards; 13 TD catches) and Drew Rayford (seven TD catches). The defending North 1, Group 1 champion’s schedule also includes a mid-season, three-game stretch at home against Hawthorne, at Palisades Park/Leonia and at New Milford.
