GLEN ROCK — Robert Ray took his steps and lined up a potential 46-yard field goal, an attempt that most high school kickers could only dream of making.
The ball sailed off his right foot, splitting the uprights and clearing them by about 10 yards, more than enough distance on a day when Glen Rock proved to be too much for visiting Palisades Park/Leonia (1-5) in a 34-13 football win last Saturday afternoon.
“We had a rough couple of weeks to start off, but we’re finally starting to come together as a team now,” said Ray, a former soccer player who took up football in eighth grade.
In fact, Ray was just one of many standouts for the Panthers, who improved to 3-2 and moved to ninth in the North 1, Group 2 power point standings, just four points behind Sussex Tech for the final playoff spot.
