All along, Samantha Fuehring’s heart told her Louisville.

Her visit to the school sealed her choice.

Fuehring, a 6-foot-3 forward for Immaculate Conception, committed to the Cardinals over the weekend, ending a long recruiting process for the Wanaque native.

“I just woke up one day and I thought my heart said Louisville,” said Fuehring, 17. “The girls were funny and nice and I had a connection with them. The academics are good. I just fit in.”

Fuehring visited the school and watched the Cardinals play a women’s soccer game. She had dinner and a Q and A session with members of the basketball team, then joined her future teammates in a game of sand volleyball.

Dayton, Rutgers, Seton Hall and the University of California at Berkeley were among the schools who courted Fuehring, who averaged 20.9 points and 7.8 rebounds in 2013-14. She plays almost every position for the Blue Wolves, including point guard at times, but she said the Cardinals’ coaches see her as a forward.

“They like when their bigs shoot,” Fuehring said. “They are not afraid. They trust us.”

The Cardinals reached the Elite Eight this year and the national title game in 2013.

She plans to sign Nov. 12, but isn’t sure what she wants to study. One thing she’s happy about is her phone will stop ringing.

“It was kind of hard because I didn’t have service in my house; every time people would call I would have to go outside,” Fuehring said. “It was a lot on my plate with school and basketball and training and text messages.”
