WALDWICK — “Do you think we’re ‘Hoosiers’?” Such is the question on the mind of first-year Waldwick High School girls basketball coach Frank Clark. The head of a program that is a few decades removed from overwhelming dominance, Clark is focused on bringing the Warriors back to the forefront of the sport in North Jersey.

His plan is quite elaborate, actually.

“To become a group power again, [this program] has to become like a family,” Clark said, noting that could help lead to things like “alumni wanting to come back to see games, grammar school girls wanting to be on the team when they grow up, people in town coming to see the games and talking about the team.

“I have always said that Waldwick is a town that has that ‘Hoosiers’ feel,” the coach said, referring to the 1986 film about a small-town high school basketball team from Indiana. “This is a community that is passionate about its sports. It’s why I love coaching here.”
