OLD TAPPAN — A radar gun could’ve told the story at Sunday’s Bergen County girls tennis tournament small schools first-singles final.

Glen Rock’s Alex Mircea simply hit the ball harder and overpowered Mahwah’s Alyssa Baldi for the second straight year, 6-1, 6-0.

“I don’t know where it comes from,” Mircea said of her amazing power.

“I just get really low and put my whole body into it.”

Wherever it comes from, Mircea had more than enough to win again. She was all over Baldi from the start, not allowing her to extend any rallies or make a charge.

“Usually we play tougher matches,” Mircea said. “I think today I was just really on point with my shot-placing and my power. I played well right from the beginning, and it gave me a lot of confidence.”

In finishing second for the second straight year, Baldi maintained her composure throughout and never let the lopsided score get to her. She had nothing but praise for Mircea afterward.
