Kevin Kosakowski was getting worried.

The relentless rain was making it hard for the Rutherford junior to grip the football Friday night as the Bulldogs got ready to play Palisades Park/Leonia.

“It was tough,” the running back said.

“Right before the game I got a little nervous because I thought I was going to fumble a lot. My hands were constantly wet. I had towels coming in and out onto the field because the towels were getting wet. It was just a mess.”

Not only did The Record Male Athlete of the Week not fumble, but he ended up scoring seven touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 50-20 victory.

Kosakowski had touchdown runs of 32, 30, 26, 10, 46 and 4 yards, and scored on a 61-yard pass from Nick Birchby.

Kosakowski also scored a pair of two-point conversions, so when you add it all up, he accounted for 46 of the Bulldogs’ points.

Of all the big plays – he finished with 18 carries for 226 yards and two catches for 67 yards – he’ll always remember the “power left,” where right guard Joe Mauro pulled and kicked out the end, fullback Sebastian Manzo eliminated the linebacker, and the rest of the line blocked down to create a big hole.
