The Record

Sean Violante carried the ball 12 times for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

He had three receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown.

He returned a kick 78 yards for another score.

He made eight tackles, defended three passes and intercepted a pass.

But none of the spectators at Elmwood Park’s 34-7 victory over Pompton Lakes on Saturday saw the senior’s best performance.

That came before the game, when the running back/safety assembled his teammates, looked them in their eyes, and gave a rousing speech.

“I’m pretty much the vocal leader on the team,” said Violante, The Record Male Athlete of the Week. “That’s just what I love to do. I love getting everyone going. That’s just the type of player I am.”

Coach Tom Mulligan calls Violante “the guy every coach wants on his team.”
