HAWTHORNE — The Hawthorne High School bowling team hopes to win a state sectional title this winter.

Last season in their quest to make it back-to-back sectional titles, the Bears fell just short as they dropped the Group 1 North 1B state section to rival Pompton Lakes by fewer than 300 pins.

For this season Hawthorne will be battling with Pompton Lakes for the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference (NJIC) Colonial Division title. It could take on the Cardinals again for a sectional title that depends on how the state places the school in the sections late in the season.

For this season, the Bears are stout in the first three spots in sophomore Steve Plaszky, junior Ian Bruinooge and sophomore Madison Perry. Plaszky and Perry were named last year to the All Passaic County first team while Bruinooge was named to the All Passaic honorable mention team.
