Billy Finn, Rutherford

Sport: Football

Class: Senior. Age: 18.

Accomplishment: Finn helped lead Rutherford to a 21-13 win over Hackettstown in the North 2, Group 2 championship game. Offensively, the senior lined up at running back, wide receiver and quarterback, and rushed 14 times for 42 yards, including a pivotal one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. On defense, he finished with a team-high eight tackles and a fumble recovery as a strong safety. It marked Rutherford’s first sectional title since 1966.

“Billy is a winner. He’s a very unselfish kid. He really only cares about is winning. That was his goal; to win a state championship. He was always going to be determined to do whatever he could for the team. He’s played so many different positions; he doesn’t care about touching the ball; he just wants to win. He’s a tough, blue-collar football player.”
