Jenna Rogers, Rutherford: This touted freshman turned out to be just as advertised with a spectacular opening meet at the Aviator Relays. She opened at 5 feet and she and Kaela Monte of Ramsey cleared. Then Monte missed at 5-2 but Rogers made that height and 5-4 and 5-6 without a miss before calling it a night after one miss at 5-8, a height she made several times last summer. Mark it down — The Bergen County record is 5-10 by the wondrous Cheryl Burdick of Ramsey in 1998. Only Burdick, Becky Deetz of Ridgewood (5-9, 1975), Amy Nehls of Indian Hills (5-8, 1986) , Nancy Larena of Saddle Brook (5-7, 1983), Alex Rosenberger of Ramsey (5-7, 2008) and Taryn DeLeon of NV/Old Tappan (5-7, 2013) have gone higher than Rogers. Those six girls combined for five State Meet of Champions titles and every girl won at least one state group title. Rogers is certainly capable of being in that class.
