POMPTON LAKES – In her four year varsity career Carolyn Zhang won 65 of the 76 matches that she took part in. As a senior this fall Zhang went 16-5 yet her first comments when describing the 2014 season were dedicated to her team and not herself.

“I was very happy with the year. We did very well as a team. We went 16-3 and I am proud of how we did,” said Zhang who helped lead the Cardinals to the semifinals of the North I, Group 1 tournament and to a second place finish in the Passaic County Tournament.

After a junior year where she went a remarkable 23-0 at second singles, Zhang entered her senior year as the Cardinals top player and she performed up to her own expectations.

“I knew that I was not going to be able to go undefeated again, but I just wanted to try my hardest in the new spot,” said Zhang. “I enjoy playing and I knew that if I worked hard I would be able to succeed.

A four year varsity player Zhang looks back on her high school career fondly.

“It is probably one of my best memories about high school,” said Zhang. “I was able to create friendships and we had a lot of fun competing together as a team.”
