Zariq Hewitt a senior from Pompton Lakes High School stood behind the throwing cage on the shot put pitch in South Plainfield, NJ. He was waiting for his turn to throw the 12 pound shot put in the State’s Meet of Champions. He understood exactly what it meant to be standing there at that meet.

“This is incredible,” said Hewitt, “to be considered one of the best shot put athletes in the State is an incredible honor.”

That performance plus the rest of his 2014 resume combined to make Hewitt the 2014 Suburban Trends Male Track Athlete of the Year.

Hewitt placed 17th in the State.
