LAWN — For the first time since 2003, the Glen Rock wrestling team competed on its own at the District 6 tournament and while the squad didn’t announce itself as a favorite this season, the program appears to be headed in the right direction.
No longer combined with Saddle Brook, the Panthers finished sixth out of 10 squads with 74 points and sent three wrestlers to the Region 2 tournament.
“I thought we did alright,” head coach Corey Fitzpatrick said. “It’s our first year out of the co-op, and we’re a young program and we have a lot of new wrestlers in the room, so it’s a good building block for the future.”
Senior Jeremy Lipsky earned a return trip to the region tournament, while junior Matt Schlett and sophomore Kyle Fisher won their third-place consolation matches to reach the region tournament for the first time.
