CRESSKILL – It was a bit chilly and windy, so Bogota’s Leah Pimentel wore a warm-up jacket to the plate for her first two at-bats. Her coach, Brad DiRupo, suggested she remove it before she got into the batter’s box for her third plate appearance. It surely seemed to make a big impact.
A junior catcher, Pimentel blasted a two-run home run to deep center field in the fourth inning to give Bogota the lead for good as the Buccaneers rallied for an 8-5 verdict over Cresskill in an NJIC Patriot Division softball game Friday.
“It [the jacket] protected me against the cold [temperatures in the low 40s], but it was a little difficult getting my bat all the way around,” said Pimentel, who had popped up and struck out her first two times up. “But I got a pitch down the middle and I was able to really make good contact and the ball just kind of took off after it left the bat.”
Bogota, which had trailed by three runs twice (3-0 and 4-1) in the game, took a 5-4 edge after Pimentel’s two-out, game-changing homer, which also scored Lezlie Gonzalez, who had led off the fourth with a single.
