FAIR LAWN — Jimmy Vega made a bit of history Saturday, and he wasn’t the only Harrison boys volleyball player to do so.

The senior setter recorded his 1,000th career assist against Hackensack in the Blue Tide’s final match of the Fair Lawn Quad. That helped the team complete a 3-0 sweep of the competition, which also included state-ranked St. Joseph (Metuchen) in addition to the host Cutters.

“I told the kids during the week, we’d never beaten Fair Lawn in our whole program history,” Harrison coach Nick Landy said. “And to get a chance to do that was great.”

All three North Jersey teams involved came in ranked in The Record Top 5. No. 2 Fair Lawn topped No. 4 Hackensack, 25-19, 25-20, and both teams took St. Joe’s to three sets before falling.

No. 3 Harrison (13-0) began the day beating the Falcons from Middlesex County, 26-24, 25-20. Middles Piotr Namiotko and Mike Niczewski had four blocks apiece and combined with Maciej Gaus to produce 22 kills, 16 of which belonged to Namiotko.
