HACKENSACK — Since earning New Milford’s first singles job this spring, freshman Andrew Rojas has received no special privileges.
Knights coach Chris Addeo said his team’s new ace is treated like any other first-year player.“We make sure the freshmen carry the tennis balls and have the courts cleaned up after practice,” Addeo said with a smile. “Andrew still has to earn his stripes.”
On Saturday, Rojas continued to earn them on the court, helping New Milford to a fourth-place finish at the Comet Invitational. Fort Lee won the top prize by winning nine of its 10 sets while Waldwick followed with eight.
This spring, Rojas beat incumbent Justin Malveda for New Milford’s top job. Addeo said both players are thriving in their spots and that the practice partners “drive each other to improve.” Rojas said playing against each opponent’s top gun is helping him, too.
