* Keep an eye on Hasbrouck Heights senior Ryan Kaverick, who has pitched much better than his 3-3 record indicates. He has allowed only six earned runs in 45 innings (0.93 ERA) and has 79 strikeouts.
* Park Ridge has won six straight and outscored its opposition, 72-16, during that streak. The Owls’ offense has been led by senior OF Nick DiMeo (.500, 25 hits, three homers, 23 RBI), sophomore OF Gabe Robles (.390, 23 hits, 21 runs), senior SS Evan Matthews (16 RBI) and junior 1B Justin Kuron (16 hits, 15 RBI).
* Pitching will be the key to St. Mary’s success during tournament season, and the Gaels have a couple of underclassmen who seem ready for the challenge. Junior Chris Quijano is 5-0, has a 1.80 ERA, and a win over St. Joseph. Sophomore Nick Santamouris is 5-0 – all NJIC Meadowlands Division victories – with a 1.35 ERA.
* Waldwick junior right-hander John Apgar picked up two wins last week, but also produced at the plate. He went 6-for-11 in four games (.545), hit two home runs, and produced 12 RBI to help the hard-hitting Warriors extend their winning streak to nine.
* Wood-Ridge played the first home night game in program history Saturday night and beat Emerson, 4-1. Junior right-hander Nick Pronti, who made just his second varsity start, threw a one-hit complete game and didn’t walk a batter.
