Early indications were that he would take 12 weeks to heal and his eighth grade season for the Senior Wildcats of junior football was in jeopardy.
But with his determination and encouragement from family, friends and coaches, Rengifo persisted and worked hard in rehab. He was able to get back for the fifth week of the Wildcats season, much earlier than many expected.
“It feels like it is a while back,” said Rengifo recently about his persistence to get back on the field. “I didn’t think that I was going to play my eighth grade season.”
Flash forward four years and Rengifo, a senior at Becton, is hoping to help the Becton High School Wildcats varsity football team make it all the way to the Group 1 North 1 state sectional title game. “That is our one goal to get to MetLife Stadium,” said Rengifo.
