LYNDHURST — They streamed out of the dugout, each finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Emerson’s players had built an early lead, made some sparkling plays in the field and withstood a tough Ridgefield team that battled until the final out.
It didn’t come easily, but the Cavos earned a trip to the Group 1 final with an 8-6 victory over the Royals on Wednesday at Lyndhurst Recreational Field. Emerson will play Middlesex in Saturday’s championship game.
“It just worked out in our favor [Wednesday],” Emerson coach Chris Sommerhalter said.
Mike Callagee earned the victory, and Chris Nedilsky pitched a scoreless seventh to record the save.
