North Arlington

NORTH ARLINGTON — Mike Manzo-Lewis has a powerful arm, capable of tossing the ball 50 yards downfield with a quick flick of his right wrist.

Yet, Friday night, the North Arlington senior quarterback showed his legs can do some damage, too.

Running for two scores and throwing for three more, Manzo-Lewis led the Vikings to a 46-14 win over Queen of Peace at Rip Collins Field in the season opener for both schools.

Unofficially, the senior finished with 154 yards passing and 152 yards running on 12 carries.

Manzo-Lewis was impressive over the summer in 7-on-7 competitions and is coming off a torn ACL, which probably kept him relatively unknown in North Jersey.

“Losing him last year was devastating to us,” said North Arlington coach Anthony Marck. “We knew what he was capable of. And we lost his charisma on the field and his ability to scramble and when the play breaks down, he could get us a first down. Tonight it worked out.”
