SADDLE BROOK — Against a playoff-caliber team, in a playoff-like atmosphere, Michael Bolwell and Becton showed the grit and moxie they will need to succeed when the real North 1, Group 1 playoffs begin in a few weeks.

After trailing Saddle Brook by two scores with six minutes to play, the Wildcats put together a thrilling comeback, with junior wide receiver Seven Strong hauling a two-point pass from Bolwell to clinch the victory over their NJIC Meadowlands Division rivals, 35-34, Saturday.

“We really dug deep as a team,” said Bolwell, a sophomore. “Our line showed up today, and it was a great team victory. This is a huge win for us, and it is preparing us for the playoffs, preparing us to make a run.”

Indeed, the victory was important for Becton (5-1), which not only knocked off a Falcons team with whom it is competing for a postseason berth, but allowed it to keep pace with Verona, Cresskill and New Milford — all of whom are floating around the final few playoff spots.
