LYNDHURST – The Lyndhurst/North Arlington swimming coach thought his girls team would be improved this season, but not by this standard so far in the 2015-16 winter season.

As of last week, the Lady Golden Bears/Vikings were 4-1 with the lone loss coming against NJIC favorite Leonia in the first meet of the season. Last season, the Lyndhurst co-op girls team with North Arlington finished in the top five in the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference.

“We wanted to improve on what we did last season,” said Lyndhurst/North Arlington head coach Sean Frew. “I expected them (girls team) to do well, but the girls have surprised me. I like how they work together, and they are a very team-oriented group.”

For the boys team that finished near the top of the heap last season in the NJIC, they are 3-1-1 with a loss to Rutherford and tie with Leonia. In the tie with Leonia, the Golden Bears/Vikings came back in the final race, the 400 freestyle relay to tie up Leonia. Despite a 101-69 loss to Rutherford on December 10, Frew believes they have a shot at the NJIC meet on February 9 at home to unseat defending champ Rutherford.
