Nick Fabiano is finding his groove at just the right time.

The Park Ridge/Emerson junior has put together one of the best two-week stretches in North Jersey heading into today’s Bergen County boys bowling tournament at Bowler City in Hackensack.

Since Jan. 19, Fabiano has raised his average from 188 to 198, and the turning point was the middle outing of a three-matches-in-three-days stretch that week. He set a career high with a 699 series in a Jan. 20 win over Hawthorne Christian, but left the NJIC Patriot Division match with a tinge of frustration.

“He was disappointed knowing that one more pin – at any time over the course of three games – would have given him a 700,” Owls coach Blair Buscareno recalled. “Before he got on the bus, I told him, ‘You’ll get there’.”

It didn’t take long. Fabiano started the following day’s match against Queen of Peace with a spare, then struck the rest of the opening game for a personal-best 290. He totaled 14 consecutive strikes in the series, which ended up being a 705.

The Emerson resident averaged 220 over his past four matches for the NJIC Patriot-leading Owls, giving him one of the top five averages in the conference, along with Lyndhurst’s Ryan Donohue (214), Bergen Charter’s Chris Navarro (202), Becton’s Trevor Deliantis (200) and Leonia’s Joseph Biondi (195).
