When David Wilson took over as the New Milford girls basketball coach before this season, he wasn’t quite sure what to expect.
He inherited a small-school program that had graduated four seniors. Wilson still had a solid core returning, though the depth of talent on his roster remained to be seen.
Now two months into the season, Wilson’s Knights are 18-3. And that roster is filled with quality scorers and tenacious defenders. “We’re not dependent on one or two players,” Wilson said. “They all are willing to be good teammates.”
New Milford is coming off a particularly good week.
On Tuesday, the Knights defeated then-No. 12 Secaucus, 63-53, with four players scoring in double figures. Then on Saturday, New Milford beat St. Mary, 52-43, in the semifinals of the NJIC tournament. The Knights will play Emerson for the title.
