ELMWOOD PARK – The rise of Elmwood Park’s outdoor track and field program might be pinned on the recent revitalization of the high school’s football/track field along with the recent hiring of a coach.

While the new synthetic football turf at Elmwood Park High School has received a lot of the publicity, the addition of a new track along with field facilities has fallen under the radar.

With the recently constructed new track, it has brought in a long-time track and field veteran in Ed Garrison who has been coaching for the last 40 years, mainly at North Bergen High School, but also various Bergen County schools.

Elmwood Park Athletic Director Daniel Basile said it was pretty much a no-brainer to hire Garrison with his extensive background of building track and field programs.

“He has achieved countless coaching accolades as well as building various programs over the years that have shown great success under the guidance of Mr. Garrison,” said Basile. “It was only right to hire a coach with such knowledge and experience in the sport of track and field to revitalize our track program.”

Basile added that the addition of Garrison along with the new facility has sparked increased interest in the sport.
